I'm going to talk a little bit about tension, I've had quite a few clients ask about it. So what is Tension on a sewing machine, what does it do and how can we keep it perfect? The simplest way I can explain what tension is, it's the added pressure your machine puts on the two threads. As your machine sews, the moving parts will pull the threads, the top thread is pulled through the top thread guides and bottom thread is pulled around the bobbin case, and as the needle pokes the top thread through your fabric, the bottom thread is pulled up through the fabric and they meet in the middle and lock together, producing what Is called a lock stitch. Now you can't just have loose thread being pulled around, you have to have some pressure applied on these threads or you will have ugly stitches or no stitches at all.
